Colorectal Cancer Screening Evidence-Based Programs Listing

Colorectal cancer is the third leading cause of death from cancer in the United States. Colorectal cancer often begins as a growth called a polyp inside the colon or rectum; finding and removing polyps can prevent colorectal cancer. Several tests are available to screen for colorectal cancer: direct visualization tests (i.e., colonoscopy, virtual colonoscopy, and flexible sigmoidoscopy) and stool-based tests (i.e., fecal occult blood tests, fecal immunochemical tests (FIT), and DNA stool tests (Cologuard)). This EBCCP program area includes programs promoting these various methods for colorectal cancer prevention and early detection.
