Sun Safety and Indoor Tanning Evidence-Based Programs Listing

Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States and melanoma, the deadliest form, has risen steadily. Most skin cancers are caused by too much exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun, indoor tanning beds, and sunlamps. Excessive sun exposure (sunburn) is far more common than indoor tanning, and sunburn is more often unintentional than the result of outdoor tanning. This EBCCP program area includes programs that support protecting skin from UV rays from the sun and avoiding artificial sources of UV exposure (e.g., tanning beds and sunlamps) to lower the risk of getting melanoma and nonmelanoma skin cancer.
