Cervical Cancer Screening Evidence-Based Programs Listing

Cervical cancer is usually a slow-growing cancer that may not have symptoms but can be found with routine screening. It is highly preventable and highly curable if caught early. Cervical cancer is almost always caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Nearly all cervical cancers could be prevented by HPV vaccination, routine cervical cancer screening, and appropriate follow-up treatment when needed. Two widely used screening tests are HPV and cytology tests (also known as Pap test or Pap smear). These screening tests can find high-risk HPV infections, abnormal cell changes, and precancers that can be treated before they turn into cancer. Women who have never been screened face the greatest risk of developing invasive cervical cancer.
